Teste Talk

Teste Talk was created by a medical student and pediatric urologist at the University of Alberta to inform and educate teens, parents, and healthcare learners about testicular torsion, testicular tumors, and other testicular injuries and conditions. Taylor Sawchuk completed her BSc. in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Alberta in 2019. She is currently a medical student at the University of Alberta graduating in 2024. Her research interests are in the areas of urology, adolescent health, and health promotion. Outside of medicine Taylor loves trail running, ice climbing, and exploring the mountains.

Dr. Metcalfe has been a pediatric urologist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital since 2006. He was born and raised in Edmonton and graduated from University of Alberta medical school in 1999. He attended Dalhousie University for his Urology residency until 2004 and completed his clinical training at Indiana University with a 2-year fellowship in Pediatric Urology. In 2010, he completed an MSc. in Experimental Surgery. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta and Program Director for the Division of Urology. Other roles include President of the Prairie Urological Association, President of the Urology Section of the AMA, and Surgeon Champion for the Stollery P-NSQIP program.  

 

His current clinical interests include complex reconstruction of urinary tract and genital anomalies.  His research interests include preventing the pathophysiology of partial bladder outlet obstruction with mesenchymal stem cells, clinical outcomes with neuropathic bladders, and the prevention of testicular torsion.
